This mountain stage starts in Ribeauvillé and quickly plunges riders into the Vosges relief. After a valley start, the route gradually rises towards Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines, before a series of climbs to Lièpvre, Fouchy and Ville. The second part of the stage becomes more selective with the crossing of the Col de la Charbonnière, followed by a series of steep climbs around Belmont and Le Bambois.

The finale features a long and demanding climb to the Champ du Feu, ideal terrain for climbers and overall favorites. With several short but steep passes and ramps, this stage cumulates a significant vertical drop and requires excellent effort management.
