Tower Kesslerturm

Adress :
Rue du Collège, 68240 Kaysersberg Vignoble
Locate

The city wall tower built in 1372, also known as the Kessler Tower, is the highest of the city's defence towers at 22 metres high. The original gateway to the tower is located high up and was only accessible by ladder, which could be removed to protect the tower from attackers.

On the wall of the tower there is a memorial plaque in memory of the 20 internees who awaited deportation during the Nazi occupation. The tower was also used to imprison dozens of people during violent demonstrations in 1943, awaiting their tragic fate.

Today, the Kessler Tower has fewer adventures, except for the comings and goings of the storks to their nest on the roof peak.
