St Wolfgang Chapel

Locate

Consecrated in 1418 and rebuilt in 1488 and 1519, the chapel of St. Wolfgang overlooks the cemetery on its rocky outcrop south of the city. Several sculptures from the 15th, 16th and 18th centuries from the chapel are kept in the city museum. It is often said that the small half-timbered house opposite is a former leper colony. There was indeed a leprosarium not far from there, with the old chapel Saint Erhart, now demolished, but this small house was in fact a dwelling (hermits, chaplains, private individuals) for the people who maintained the chapel. The site has been listed as a historical monument since 1938.
