Concert-reading by Mathias Malzieu.
Cast:
- Mathias Malzieu: vocals, readings
- Miky Biky (Michaël Ponton): guitars, keyboards
Concert lecture (as they say.) Or musical comedy to take away with you. It's not as well known, but it's more in the spirit.
So a show where I read my new novel, written from the point of view of my cats, while singing songs. ‘It's a sad and beautiful world’ sings Tom Waits. And so am I.
It's about a couple after a miscarriage. She almost died and doesn't want any more children.
He still wants them. She's still young, he's getting old. They get a cat. Then two.
It's about gentle consolation, about resilient but unresolved grief.
The action takes place on a boat. The ghost of the child who never came wanders around the boat. He hides in the hearts of cats. We travel light, we fly to the rescue of enthusiasm.
We think, we sing, we dance.
The cats have bowls full of poems (very good for the health, heart to work).
There will be film scores played by Mike Biky (guitarist with Dionysos) during the readings.
It'll be like being in a film with a voice-over, but on a theatre stage.
A little life-size TV, a magic box for telling a story, you might say... Let's just say it!
Because that's what we're going to be working on.
Joyful, playful intimacy. Energy. A theatre of shadows (and lights) with cats.
I'll be doing stand-up improvisation between the readings and the songs, because I want to tell the whole story. I'll be singing, reading and acting, and there'll be a bit of a surprise every night.
There will be two screens and a small set on which I still have to come to an agreement with myself (and my team.) Suffice it to say that we'll be talking things over.
Given that the cats are the main narrators of this story, they have their say.
To say that they do is an understatement. They'll be animated in the screens and we'll be interacting with them. Just like in a pop-up book.
If all goes well, we should be laughing, crying and dancing a little.
Good night, kids! (And see you soon)
