The exhibition will feature some thirty drawings by watercolorist Georges Ratkoff, who has over 1,500 works to his credit. Exceptionally presented in large format, these watercolor reproductions plunge visitors into the world of Georges Ratkoff, eternal lover of a happy, authentic Alsace. This enchanted version of Alsatian life is populated by a host of characters in traditional costume, always depicted in scenes of life: playing, chatting, celebrating. Georges Ratkoff knows how to recreate the spirit of Alsatian festivities, evoking the hushed, magical atmosphere of evenings spent in the Stube, with its polychrome, symbol-laden furniture, the living heart of the house. And it's certainly with intense pleasure that he describes the Alsatian winter, its festivities, and the mysterious moments of the December festivities that he brings to light so well.
The 30 paintings chosen for the exhibition recall the authenticity of Alsatian Christmas, with its emblematic characters such as Christkindel and Saint-Nicolas, the making of bredalas, the pleasure of getting together and sharing warm moments at home, not forgetting the joy of winter activities in snowy mountain settings.
Thanks to the booklet-game specially designed for the occasion, this open-air exhibition will also be the pretext for a playful discovery of his work with family or friends.
You can also meet and chat with the artist at signing sessions at the Christmas market, or immerse yourself in the warm atmosphere of Alsatian Christmas during storytelling evenings with storyteller-historian Gérard Leser.
