Colmar Jazz Festival - Eve Risser & Naïny Diabeté “'Anw Be Yonbolo”' /Theon Cross
EVE RISSER & NAÏNY DIABATÉ ‘ ANW BE YONBOLO ’ - France/Mali - Duo piano and voice
This duo arose naturally from the desire to return to the source of the Kogoba Basigui programme: the union of the Red Desert Orchestra led by Risser and the Kaladjula Band led by Diabaté. The two composers combine their careers in a powerful recital that explores all the possibilities of piano-voice, breathing new life into free-form Mandinka music that is both concentrated and explosive, conceived for and by women to tell their story.
Naïny Diabaté: vocals, composition - Eve Risser: piano, prepared piano, composition
THEON CROSS - United Kingdom - Contemporary jazz
The tuba has never been cooler than in the hands of Theon Cross. A hyperactive collaborator on the London scene, he is an indispensable part of the Sons of Kemet's unique sound. The British musician of Caribbean origin blows out never-before-heard tuba sounds, which are by turns percussive, atmospheric or melodic. Tuba virtuoso Theon Cross is preparing to release a new album entitled Affirmations: Live at Blue Note New York. A stunning live recording of a generational talent at the top of his game, Affirmations sees Cross team up with Chicago saxophonist Isaiah Collier for a suite of unbridled fire music, forged in the cauldron of New York's iconic club - capturing the energy of Cross's first American show, one of the few to bear the name Live at the Blue Note.
Theon Cross: tuba - Isaiah Collier: saxophone - James Russell Sims: drums - Nikos Ziarkas: guitar Colmar reservation.theatre@colmar.fr
