Trail Alsace Grand Est by UTMB
Come and cheer on the runners at the start of the Knights' Ultra-Trail and enjoy some festive fun!
For this second edition, the race will start at 8pm in the Place Rapp, heading towards the Vosges mountains to discover the fortified castles of Alsace.
From 4pm, there will be entertainment and a race for children in the Place Rapp.
After the 8pm start, enjoy a tarte flambée in front of a concert by the Hopla Guys, a festive and delirious group.
With 4 races on the programme, from 34 km to 175 km, runners will be able to embark on a chivalrous epic through the Vosges mountains, exploring castles and picturesque villages along paths where nature is both wild and unspoilt, before ending their adventure on the ramparts of Obernai, one of the most beautiful detours in France.
The flagship race, the Ultra-Trail des Chevaliers, covering 175km and 6,200 metres of ascent, will start in Colmar, the capital of the Haut-Rhin department, and will take in no fewer than 20 castles, including Haut-Koenigsbourg and Hohlandsbourg, as well as the abbey of Mont St Odile and numerous villages along the Alsace wine route.
The 109km race, with its 3,820 metres of ascent, will start from Orschwiller, home of the famous Haut-Koenigsbourg castle, symbolically located just a hundred metres from the border between the two départements. After a stroll along the wine trails, you'll quickly reach the small fortified town of Saint-Hippolyte before entering the grounds of Haut-Koenigsbourg a few dozen kilometres further on, marking the start of your ride through some twenty châteaux.
The 50K, 50km and 1,990m of ascent, will take you along the "sentier des merveilles" to meet Sainte Odile, allowing runners to rub shoulders with the peaks of Bloss and Heidenkopf.
Finally, the short format, of 34km and 1280m of positive ascent, will take in Alsace's spiritual Mecca at an altitude of 753m, allowing runners to discover a condensed version of the medieval atmosphere, in the heart of a lush and enchanted forest in which stand seven fortified castles.
