Colmar International Festival - Yuja Wang, a virtuoso wonder in Colmar
Mahler Chamber Orchestra
piano : Yuja Wang
A star among stars, Yuja Wang will grace our Festival with her presence this season. A virtuoso well known to music lovers, this fascinating artist will perform not one but two concertos on the same evening - and what concertos they are!
In addition to Tchaikovsky's famous Piano Concerto No. 1, a monument of Russian Romanticism at its peak, she will also introduce us to a much less well-known work: Nikolai Kapustin's Piano Concerto No. 4. This composer, sometimes described as the ‘Moscow Gershwin’ for his way of blending jazz influences with the strictest classical music, leaves us with this concerto, a magnificent work of audacity, overflowing with rhythms and colours.
A discovery not to be missed under any circumstances!
Program
Ludwig van Beethoven, Coriolan Ouverture (8')
Nikolaï Kapoustine, Piano Concerto No. 4, Op. 56 (23')
Igor Stravinsky, Octet for wind instruments (15')
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Piano Concerto No.1 in B flat minor op.23 (32')
Concert supported by: AG2R ARPEGE Colmar resafestival@tourisme-colmar.com
