Colmar International Festival - Viktoria Mullova and Brahms, elegance in D Major
Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg
Conductor : Aziz Shokhakimov
Violin : Viktoria Mullova
What a pleasure to have the great Viktoria Mullova with us, performing one of the highlights of the repertoire: Brahms' Violin Concerto. Like Beethoven, Brahms composed only one, but what a masterpiece!
Aziz Shokhakimov and the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra will prolong our pleasure with Schumann's Symphony No. 2, the perfect complement to this world-famous work. With pages that are by turns sombre and cheerful, exuding an exceptional telluric power from beginning to end, it too seems to create a new sound universe - and what a sublime slow movement, one of the most beautiful ever written by Schumann!
Here we can clearly see the relationship between Schumann and Brahms, between the mentor and the young prodigy who would draw on his model to find his own language.
Program
J. Brahms, Violin concerto in D major, op. 77 (40')
R. Schumann, Symphony No. 2 in C major, op. 61 (40')
Concert supported by the Caisse d'Epargne Colmar resafestival@tourisme-colmar.com
